Abstract

Pulmonary Sarcomatoid Carcinoma with Left Atrial Extension and Atrial Fibrillation

Cardiac involvement is a relatively common finding, occurring in up to 14% in cancer patients. However, cardiac extension through the pulmonary veins is a very infrequent finding in this population. Sarcomatoid carcinoma of the lung is a rare cancer, more likely found in male smokers. We present the case of a female nonsmoker with bilateral sarcomatoid carcinoma of the lungs, and left atrial extension through the pulmonary vein. Atrial fibrillation was one of the initial manifestations.
